Here are my full thoughts and feelings on BDSM Apocalypse.
Since it was only $15 (special offer until the 14th of July), I decided it would be an idea for me to download and play BDSM Apocalypse. The game is available on Steam and after putting in 3 hours, I think I can give my honest two cents. So, let’s do exactly that, shall we?
Firstly: this is a pretty typical Japanese RPG, and I did like the setting and environment. I’ve always been a bit of a sucker when it comes to post-apocalyptic titles, especially when there’s sex involved! You’re going up against zombies and machines that were created by the state (I’ve always hated governments, this is why!) and it’s your job to try and survive. The world is mainly made up of little shanty towns and the like: gave me similar energy to Fallout 4 in this respect, when you’d happen upon an area that had maybe 10 to 20 people who were all pitching in to make things work.
The game is very much based around the story, and there’s not much free exploration to do. You’ll have to manage your ammo – especially since in BDSM Apocalypse, it’s currency! Not a completely new idea, but since I’m a hater of all things fiat, I do appreciate the approach of being realistic about how a world would work if everything collapsed. Anyhow, you play the role of a gun for hire and sometimes, it’s your job to kill the bad people (or the good people, depending on how you look at things).
It’s not just zombies you’ll be going up against: there are raider-like beings who don’t want to play nice, and it’s your job to put bullets in their heads whenever – and wherever – possible. You get plenty of sex in BDSM Apocalypse, and it turns out that it’s actually used as a form of mana: at least, that’s the best way to describe it. They’re points utilized for combat so you can do various things – similar to AP in Dofus, or Mana in MTG. The more you’ve got, the better your options!
I do like the artwork and there’s a lot of gameplay here. I didn’t actually get the chance to finish up BDSM Apocalypse: as much as I’d have liked to, I probably got about 40% of the way through the title, based on what I discussed with others via Discord. Honestly – I think the combat system was my favorite feature, simply because it’s relatively complex, but also balanced nicely and easy to get the hang of. It’s one of those games where you can get by making sub-par decisions, but you can also go crazy if you know exactly what you’re doing.
The game is created by Noxurtica, and they’ve got a number of different titles in the same genre. You can check them all out here. Now, the biggest question: would I actually recommend BDSM Apocalypse? It’s a good game, and since it’s only 15 bucks – I don’t think you can go wrong. The studio behind it know what they’re doing and with over a dozen successful sex-based RPGs behind them, I’m pretty confident that this will just be another success. I think the interface could do with a little fixing here and there, but honestly – I’m just being picky at this point. It’s hard to find a fault with this adult game, so yeah – that says pretty much everything, right?
Thanks for reading. Have you played BDSM Apocalypse? Did you enjoy it? Let me know down in the comments!
